Adonis Watt: From Vision Hero To Marvel Hero Pt.1

When the Vision of Children Foundation learned that one of our Vision Heroes was 1 of the 20 selected for the Marvel Hero Project, we could hardly contain our excitement. We decided the best way to learn more about this new Disney+ series is to speak directly with the minds behind the project. In part one of this two-part blog, we’re excited to share with you exclusive information provided by the Marvel team surrounding a new barrier-breaking series on Disney+!

This 20-episode series shares the remarkable, positive change several young heroes are making in their own communities across the country. These inspiring kids have dedicated their lives to selfless acts of bravery and kindness, and now, Marvel celebrates them as the true Super Heroes they are by welcoming them into Marvel’s Hero Project.

1. Can you give us an overview of what the Marvel Hero Project is?

Marvel has sought out young people who are already heroes in real life with the incredible work they are doing for a variety of causes, effecting positive change in their communities. In Marvel’s Hero Project, we get to shine a spotlight on the kids by welcoming them as Marvel Super Heroes in their own comic books.

2. What ultimately led you to Adonis for the Marvel Hero Project?

Not only is Adonis an exemplary role model of what you can achieve, personally, when you keep doing the work, but he’s an inspiration to kids and adults everywhere that we get to decide our own limits, no matter what the world thinks our physical abilities are.

3. What can people expect from the Marvel Hero Project?

An inspiring show for all ages that illustrates how all kinds of people, from all different circumstances, can make a positive difference in their communities when they dedicate the time and the heart. It also shows how real-life heroes inspire storytellers like us at Marvel.

4What is your hope for this project? Who do you think this will inspire?

I think kids AND adults will be inspired. The children in the show have the support of their families, not always from a financial standpoint, but from a place of encouragement. It’s the recognition that every generation has a chance to improve our time on this planet and there is no reason to wait until you’re grown up. I love that about this series… it shows that heroism is something we can all embody, as soon as we activate our “superpowers.”

5. Marvel’s first-ever Braille comic book is a great stride for the visually impaired community. When will the book be made available to the public?

The comic book will be available for free digitally at Marvel Unlimited and the Marvel Digital Comics Store immediately after the episode airs on Disney+. The Braille book was an exciting first for us, but we’re also doing audio versions of ALL 20 books. So when you go online to read the comic, whether it’s for Adonis’s or another one, you’ll have the option to select the accessible version where we describe the scenes and action in a much more dynamic way than typical audio captioning. Those who are not visually impaired could enjoy these audio versions too!

Make Sure you check out Adonis’ Episode Airing this Friday on Disney+!
